It has been a busy few months since the election as we work hard to hold the new Government to account. I am delighted to be the National Party spokesman for Foreign Affairs, Fisheries and Land Information.
It’s been disappointing to see our legislated Income Tax changes repealed by the new government, taking $1,060 off the average income earner in New Zealand.
As local MP my focus is always on the Ilam electorate. When I vote in Parliament I do so knowing I represent the views of those who live in Ilam. When people move in to the electorate, or turn 18, I write to them and ask them for their views and their concerns. This is something I have done for nearly 20 years and I have had 1000’s of responses. These views and concerns, along with meeting constituents, give me a clear picture of Ilam’s residents and their expectations, frustrations and reservations. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your views on particular issues.
It's been great to be out and about in Ilam and across Christchurch over the last few weeks.
I recently visited Independent Fisheries, a local Christchurch business.
I enjoyed speaking at our monthly Ilam Luncheon, it’s always a good opportunity to hear from locals on issues that concern them.
The Canterbury A&P show is always a successful event here in Christchurch. I enjoyed attending with fellow National MPs Matt Doocey, Andrew Falloon, David Carter and Steven Joyce.
John Harrington and the team at Harrington’s Breweries recently showed Bill English and I around their newly automated plant here in Christchurch.
Christchurch City Mission
Every year my Electorate office staff donate in the lead up to Christmas to a local charity helping out in our Community. This year they have chosen the Christchurch City Mission. If you want to donate, there is more information on the City Mission website here www.citymission.org.nz
Are you on Facebook?
If you haven't already, i encourage you to connect with me on Facebook - I am updating it regularly on events happening here in Christchurch, and in Parliament.
Ilam Electorate Office
As always the Ilam Electorate office staff are there to help all Ilam constituents with concerns or queries. The office is located at 283 Greers Road and is open Monday through Friday. If you require a JP, there is one in the office, please phone first on 359 0582.
