Welcome to my latest Eye on Ilam. With Parliament currently sitting there are a range of issues being debated.
Locally I continue to receive a large amount of correspondence regarding the chlorination by the Christchurch City Council of our water, and more recently the proposals regarding mandatory chlorination across New Zealand. I do not support this and take every opportunity to question why such steps are necessary.
I have been pleased to host Simon Bridges here in Ilam recently, and my Youth MP Matthew Penno has been in Wellington recently learning about the experience of being a Member of Parliament.
I am also pleased to invite you to a public meeting with my colleague the Hon Judith Collins. More details about that are below.
As always, please don't hesitate to contact me at my office on 359 0582 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hon Gerry Brownlee
Member of Parliament for Ilam
Upcoming Public Meeting with Judith Collins
Every month I have a range of National MPs here in Ilam visiting businesses, schools or other organisations. I am pleased to welcome Judith Collins to Ilam on Thursday the 3rd of October, this meeting is a chance to hear from Judith, and to share your views. It will be held at 10.30am at the Burnside Bowling Club, 330 Avonhead Road. More details will follow closer to the time.
Ilam Youth Member Parliament
Matthew Penno, a student from Christchurch Boys’ High School was selected from a large number of high quality applicants from our local schools to be the Ilam Youth MP, he is currently at Parliament where among a range of activities he had the opportunity to ask a question in Parliament, if you want to look at the question please click here.
Public Meeting with Simon Bridges
It was great to host a public meeting in Bishopdale recently with the Leader of the Opposition Simon Bridges. Thank you to everyone who turned out to the meeting. With well over 100 people there it was excellent to have so many questions and feedback for Simon. I intend to have a range of public meetings here in the Ilam electorate over the coming months, I will keep you informed as to when the next one is.
2019 Local Body Elections
Local body elections are fast approaching our City with Election Day being the 12th of October. Voting papers were posted out from the 20th of this month.
As your local MP I deal on a regular basis with ratepayers who have issues with the Council, it's important we all participate in the upcoming elections.
The Ilam electorate includes parts of the Harewood, Fendalton, Riccarton, Papanui and Waimairi Council and Community Board Wards and more information can be found here.
Ilam Fire Station and Training Site Blessing
I was pleased to attend the site blessing for the Ilam Fire Station and Fire Engineering Educational Training facility here in the Ilam Electorate. I am pictured here with Riccarton Community Board members Helen Broughton and Catherine Chu.
Young Leaders at Villa Maria College
I was pleased recently to spend some time at Villa Maria College with a class of their young leaders. We had a wide ranging discussion and the questions they asked were impressive. With young leaders like this the future of New Zealand is in good hands.
