#UPDATE Here's the latest for Christchurch and parts of Canterbury:
•A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck at 12.02am today close to Hanmer Springs in North Canterbury - with more than 100 aftershocks so far.
•Kaikoura and other towns have been essentially cut off, with the famous SH1 road and rail tunnels blocked by slips.
•Damage in the Christchurch CBD appears to be minimal, although building assessments are still being carried out.
•Earthquake damage has closed SH1 north of Waipara heading to Picton and SH7, Waipara to Springs Junction, and SH7A to Hanmer Springs.
•There are no issues with drinking water in Christchurch or Banks Peninsula and there is no need to boil water.
